El verano ha llegado!
You've definitely earned a nice, long break filled with lazy days at the beach, s'mores around the fire pit and everything in between. Why in the world would I be suggesting that you do Spanish in the summer? So you'll forget less. And even learn new things! This week I will give you some ideas of how to keep your Spanish alive and well in your brain! 1. Duolingo! the app and the Spanish podcasts are great!! 2. Quizlet or Gimkit for reviewing vocab and verbs! 3. Señor Wooly! Do some more nuggets on any song in your library. I've opened up a few more for you! 4. Netflix or other streaming service! ONLY because you can often change the language of your favorite movies to Spanish with or without subtitles. It's a great way to learn! 5.The Public Library. It's still closed until June 15, when you will be able to order picks for "take out." ;) But you can access lots of materials digitally. You will need an account or library card. Go to www.tadl.org. (Traverse Area District Library) Go to "Download and Stream." There are many platforms that the library uses to offer their services. I searched for an hour or two this morning and flushed up a few resources for you, my devoted estudiante: 1. Mango This is a language program similar to Duolingo. (I like Duolingo better... it's easier to use and more colorful. Color is always good in my book!) 2. RB Digital This has lots of e-magazines in Spanish! Go to magazines, explore, and filter the language to Spanish. There are 550 titles available! For your age group, I'd suggest "Hola," "Algarabía Niños", "Muy interesante Junior", and "Tú." 3. Hoopla This platform has lots of kids' audiobooks in Spanish that you can listen to, just click on audio books and filter by language. You can also search through some movies in Spanish, ebooks, music, and tv shows (Paw Patrol lol!). In mid June, you should be able to check out REAL books (libros verdaderos!). There are tons of Spanish language children's books that would be GREAT for you to read over the summer!

I have two forms for you to fill out today. At the end of the year, I usually like to have my departing 8th graders vote on their peers for certain categories - Claro que en español! Es obvio! :) This will be fun! Será divertido! You will just fill in the name of one 8th grade boy and one girl for each question. It's OK if you skip a few. And yes, I will share the results with you. Due Friday, por favor. The second form (on the right) is to get your feedback on my class and teaching methods -including remote learning in la clase de español. YOU are the most important part of what I do, so your input is very much appreciated! Gracias! viernes Well, you made it! Lo hiciste! I could write an entire page of sentimental, mushy stuff about how much I'm going to miss you, how much I've seen you grow over the last two to three years, how much you've made me laugh, how much joy you have brought to my days... but I'll keep it short. Gracias. Desde el fondo de mi corazón. Stay in touch! You can't forget that email address, after all - pmoore! :) And you'll know where to find me if you're ever back at SEAS some time. Speaking of SEAS, I have a little package just for you!... please look for it at SEAS next week when you go for locker clean out/textbook drop off. And bring your Spanish AR book to return as well, por favor! Stay safe, and have the best summer ever! You certainly deserve it! lunes You've been quarantined for 2 months now! For better or worse, let me see how you're coping. Create a selfie slide on PowerPoint! Snap a selfie of yourself doing something at home or outdoors and upload the photo to PowerPoint. Include three quality sentences in Spanish describing what's going on in the photo. Share with me by Friday. martes I am a list maker. Yo escribo listas para todo. You name it, I probably have a list for it. It helps my busy and somewhat distracted brain remember all the wandering thoughts I have. Today, I have a list challenge for YOU! How many things can you list in your house in Spanish? You can totally list 25. I bet you can list 50. I wonder if you can list -dare I say it? -100? CHALLENGE ON! Grab un lápiz y un cuaderno and walk around, spending time looking all around in each room. You'll be surprised at how fast the list will grow! Send me your handwritten list of at least 50 or better by Friday. No online translator use allowed! Es obvio!! miércoles Es música miércoles! You remember the song, "Vivir mi Vida" by Marc Anthony, no? Haz click en el enlace abajo to watch the video on Lyrics Training. You do not have to create an account to play. Choose "intermediate" (or advanced if you dare!) and fill in the missing lyrics! Take a screenshot of your score and send it to me by Friday. Vivir mi Vida (If the link doesn't work for you, just go to lyricstraining.com and search for "Vivir mi Vida.") jueves Today I want you to read and see how our many verb tenses are used within a familiar story. Click on the link to The Spanish Experiment website in the red box below and listen to "Caperucita Roja." You may wish to read along with it by scrolling down. Pause the audio and hit the "translate" tab as needed when you hear/read something you don't follow - when used this way, it is a useful tool! Then answer the questions on Microsoft Forms to accompany the story (link below in rojo claro). viernes Today I want to tell you about your final project that will be due next Thursday, el 28 de mayo. You may opt to start it today, or you might just enjoy a long weekend and do it next week. Es tu decisión! :) And the best part? You may work on it with a partner! (You can also do your own if that is easier for you.) You will be showing me what you've learned by creating an Edpuzzle video of your own! You will need to create an account (lo siento mucho) in order to do this. Once you have your account created, enter the specific class code for your hour: Quinta hora: halocoa Décima hora: hozastu You will add 11 "notes" to a Simon's Cat video with detailed sentences that describe the current scene or activity in the video using each of the following tenses. Note: I have used hablar in the él form as an example here, but you will use different verbs. Let your Spanish skills shine! 1. el presente él habla he talks 2. el progresivo presente él está hablando he is talking 3. el pretérito él habló he talked/spoke 4. el perfecto presente él ha hablado he has spoken 5. el mandato (tú affirm or negative) ¡Habla! OR No hables! Talk! Don't talk! 6. el imperfecto él hablaba he was talking/talked 7. el pluscuamperfecto él había hablado he had talked/spoken 8. el futuro él hablará he will talk 9. el condicional él hablaría he would talk 10. un verbo como gustar a él no le gusta hablar he doesn't like to talk 11. un frase verbal él quiere hablar he wants to talk ¡No hay escuela el lunes! :) ¡Que tengas un buen fin de semana con tu familia! lunes We'll focus on reviewing el pretérito today. Watch the following video (No puedo ayudarlo; soy una fan del gato de Simón!). Write 10 good sentences or more describing what happens in the video. I want to see past tense/preterit in all your sentences! Watch out for those common irregulars, and no wimpy three word sentences, either, muchachos!! Hand write these, por favor! Your handwriting reminds me of YOU! Picture or scan due Friday. martes Today try to knock out some XP on stores through Duolingo. I'm looking for 50 XP by Friday. Then, another quick assignment for today. Watch a song video from Disney's "The Little Mermaid." (Ay, qué lindo!) You should be able to watch it right here and respond to the questions throughout. If the video is not playing for you, here's the link to theEdpuzzle site to watch it. As usual, due by Friday. miércoles Let's play Kahoot together live today at 11:00am! I will email you the game PIN on Wednesday morning to join. We won't play any longer than 20 minutes. If you aren't able to play live, please click here to complete the individual Kahoot Challenge by Friday. jueves y viernes Hoy escucharás un podcast en Duolingo. I LOVE these! Era muy difícil escoger uno - they are all so interesting and filled (lleno!) with rich language for you! I cannot recommend these enough (now or even in summer when you're away from la clase de español). The podcasts use both English and Spanish to tell the story, making them easy to follow while helping you learn Spanish. For your assignment, I decided on "Otro Camino Hacia La Victoria," (Another Way to Victory) because of the inspiring story. Click on the link in the darker green box below to go to the podcast. You will obviously LISTEN to it, but I encourage you to also READ along with it (Just scroll down to "Transcript" right underneath the audio player). It is helpful to see the Spanish words as you hear them. Please do not just skim through the transcript looking for the answers to the questions... en serio, you will lose so much value. Listen to the native speaker tell the story, it's amazing. Answer the 20 questions about the story on the file below right. You may print it and hand write the answers or mark up the PDF. Send me a pic or scan of BOTH SIDES of the worksheet by Friday. Oh, did I forget to mention you can even answer en inglés?
¡Te extraño mucho! Get out there and enjoy the nice weather! (¡por fin!) Zoom Classes: 5th hour 10:30-11am Mondays 10th hour 2:00-2:30pm Tuesdays Check student email for link! lunes We're heading back to Garbanzo for some reading again this week. You will read two (leerás) stories this week. Everyone will read a short, superfácil story to help you with circumlocution called "Descríbemelo," and then you will CHOOSE one other story from the options available (Kobe, Billie Eilish, or Dr. Li). Due on Friday. Please try to do at least 50 XP of Duolingo throughout this week. I should be able to view your activity as long as you are in the class. Send me a screenshot if you're unsure. martes It's Taco Tuesday! And what better day? Hoy es el Cinco de Mayo! Three things you MUST know about this holiday: 1. It has to do with Mexico. So tacos are warranted. 2. It is NOT Mexico's independence day. 3. It's not even celebrated in Mexico at all (except in the city of Puebla, where it happened). Watch this short video for the real story behind Cinco de Mayo. Puebla is where it's at on Cinco de Mayo! Here's a fun, artistic video with a catchy tune entitled "Puebla" by musical artist Alvaro Soler from Spain. As you watch it, write down a list of 15 different verbs used in the song lyrics with the English translation. You can pause the video as you need, or simplemente míralo de nuevo! Send me a pic/scan of your handwritten list by Friday. Now, go eat those tacos! miércoles Let's take a look at the last verb tense of the year: El Condicional = WOULD do something. Tú dormirías, pero tienes que hacer tu tarea de español. (You would sleep, but you have to do your Spanish homework.) The Conditional and Future Tenses are often learned together because they have so much in common: 1. Endings are added on to the infinitive. 2. Endings are the same for -AR/-ER/-IR verbs. 3. Same exact irregular stems (tendr-, saldr-, pondr-, podr-, querr-, sabr-, habr-, vendr-, har-, dir-) How easy is that? Add these to your infinitive and done! Superfácil! Notice there are accents on ALL five forms. And yes, yo and Ud/él/ella are the same! Go to StudySpanish.com and read the written lesson and examples for the Conditional. This will really help your understanding of the use of the conditional. Then complete the basic quiz and mini test by Friday. Remember you will need to redo it for full credit if you score below a 75%. jueves Hoy, you will use (usarás!) the new conditional tense to develop a paragraph of 10 sentences about what you would do in your choice of ONE of the situations below. Add depth to your paragraph through details, additional information, and by explaining why you would do that. Be sure to attach the conditional ending to any verb you use, and watch out for the irregulars noted above. Entrégamelo para viernes. (Escrito a mano, por favor! Hand written, please!) A) Si tuviera un millón de dólares, yo... (If I had a million dollars, I would...) B) Si fuera un animal, yo sería... (If I were an animal, I would be...) C) Si yo pudiera visitar cualquier lugar en el mundo, yo iría a ... (If I could visit any place in the world, I would go to...) D) Si yo pudiera volver atrás en el tiempo, yo iría al año... (If I could go back in time, I would go back to the year...) ¡Que tengan un buen fin de semana! |
